Assigned peer reviews:. Contents.QICQ There is something called 'QICQ' now. Is it something compatible to QQ, or is it some sort of add-in to the system? Somebody in the Chinese version claimed that it is the new name for QQ, but I wonder, as such information was not found in the official website of QQ. 07:25, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)so far as i know, 'OICQ' stands for 'open ICQ'. I don't know how they got this name, but it was changed into 'QQ' shortly later.
17:50, Jun 25, 2004 (UTC) English name of the virtual currency The English language Wikipedia article today refers to Tencent QQ's virtual currency as 'QQ coin', but I seem to remember that a few years ago it was 'Q coin'. I believe the latter is more correct: the direct translation of 'Q币' is clearly 'Q coin' with a single 'Q'. The Xinhua news agency as well as Western news agencies seem to have used both 'QQ coin' and 'Q coin' when talking about the same currency, but the latter gets more Google hits. Scholarly sources that I am aware of use 'Q coin' (; ).
Most importantly, the only mention of the currency that I could find on Tencent's own English language site, arguably the most authoritative source, is 'Q coin'. I have therefore changed mentions of 'QQ coin' to 'Q coin' in the article.
19:00, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Warning I must put this here(though my English skill is not that good): If a Chinese people wish to contact with people outside of mainland China, they will use E-mail, AIM or MSN(WLM). If you don't live in China and have many Chinese friends, you should not try this IM service. It includes tons of stuffs you don't need, you will find it changes many system settings on your computer, and a few Chinese people are also trying to rid off Tencent QQ. —Preceding comment added by 10:33, 16 February 2009 (UTC)And the version codes of Tencent QQ are also jokes. 10:42, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Or you could use the international version found at which seems to be fairly safe so far. 18:12, 1 May 2009 (UTC)and you may also choose the Tencent Messenger which is quite clean comparing to the QQ at the same time with the full service you needed. —Preceding comment added by 07:26, 14 September 2009 (UTC) Tech Stuff Any technical information about the program, platforms it can run on, ports it uses etc?Try examining the Gaim plugin's source code for that information. 01:18, 23 March 2006 (UTC) UDP protocol: typical port 8000, the first byte is 02 and last byte is 03 TCP protocol: typical port 80, the second byte is 02 and last byte is 03 Though the fact that it uses arbitrary ports for file transfer and other functionality makes it really hard to do traffic characterization.
I hope someone can give me more information for identifying QQ file transfer. English registration? Since there is an English version of the program, why isn't there a registration page for it? There's no way I can type Chinese characters for that security check thing.- 05:17, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Your right.
I searched the net, but only the Chinese form was available. Non chinese are locked out!I've downloaded English QQ client fron and successfully registered my QQ number. The English version is also avaliable from the official website, and it is Vista Compatible.12:14, 22 September 2007 (UTC)To get a QQ number you have to be able to enter Chinese characters into the verification fields. Easiest to have a chinese person do that for you, or ask a chinese person just to get a number for you.Next easist way is to use a website where you can mouse write the characters and then copy and paste into the verification field.
SOme Chinese knowledge will come very handy here. —Preceding comment added by 03:08, 22 November 2007 (UTC)The English signup page is here: It does not require to enter Chinese character anymore. —Preceding comment added by 08:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)I never know Tencent did such a fucking rule to get an English QQ number.Completely Closed Platform Because QQ only runs on Windows, some hobbiest (Mainly Chinese Mac / Linux) users tried to develope thrid party QQ clients that can be excuted on other operating systems through reverse engineering the original QQ portocol. IQQ, LumaQQ and isQ are some most famous examples. However, since late 2005, Tencent strengthened its network security and blocked all unofficial access to its server.
As by now (July, 2006), QQ can only be accessed from its offical released windows client. This is not true, LumaQQ 2005 and 2006 are able to log on to tencent servers as of august 2006for other unix alike system, say linux. Eva maybe the best choice. It looks like QQ.not only the appearance, but also the function. Besides, Eva includes the authentication part which help you log on the tencent server.I saw LumaQQ working on a Mac In October 2007.
I have QQ running succesfully on Linux Ubuntu using Pidgin as a client (as of November 2007). However, Audio and Video chat will not work on either. There is an original Tencent client for Linux: —Preceding comment added by 03:16, 20 October 2009 (UTC) Disambiguation Deleted all the QQ emoticon and World of Warcraft stuff. Disambiguation pages are solely intended to allow users to choose among several Wikipedia articles, usually when a user searches for an ambiguous term.
It is NOT the proper place to define the various terms, those belong on their own pages. The QQ emoticon info also lacked any sources and was total original research. 07:29, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Note to Sabar -I am not sure I approve of people deleting stuff without making an attempt to replicate the information (unless incorrect) in the correct place. It seems to defeat the purpose of an information storage point.south african version is the south african qq managed by the chinese qq? Or is it subcontracted to a south african company? —The preceding comment was added by 23:55, 28 December 2006 (UTC).No, the South African page IS NOT an official page, it is NOT subcontracted and it has NO connection with Tencent.Fair use rationale for Image:QQNewLogo.gif.
